Texas Memory Systems manufactures solid state disk technology to accelerate enterprise applications like OLTP databases, batch processes, and data warehouses, modeling and video editing up to 2500%. Texas Memory Systems launched the 400,000 I/O per second RamSan-400 solid state disk (SSD). The new product has successfully completed the Solaris Ready certification process, making it the fastest storage solution certified for Sun servers to date. The Solaris Ready designation is given by Sun only to products that have met stringent testing requirements for system compatibility, interoperability, ease-of-installation, functionality, and network interoperability.

The first solid state disk with 4-gigabit Fibre Channel interfaces, RamSan-400, is currently the only Solaris Ready storage device that can sustain 3-gigabytes/second of random data transfers or 400,000 random I/Os per second. This exceptional performance makes the RamSan-400 ideal for accelerating I/O-intensive databases, OLTP (online transaction processing), OLAP (online analytical processing), content streaming, modeling, and high volume data acquisition environments and finds large businesses, government, telecommunications and entertainment customers among its users.

The RamSan-400 is designed to look like a disk to the network. Therefore, it is highly interoperable and works in virtually any enterprise environment. It is installed in numerous environments, including Apple OS X, AIX, Solaris, Linux, and Windows. Hardware from Fibre Channel and InfiniBand vendors including Cisco, Emulex, Brocade, McData, Mellanox, QLogic, LSI Logic, and Vixel easily interoperates with the RamSan.

The storage systems are typically deployed alongside traditional storage devices to allow IT managers and database administrators to increase the number of concurrent users and simultaneous transactions without resorting to additional servers, associated licenses and management overhead.

Woody Hutsell, Executive Vice President at Texas Memory Systems, stated: "Sun customers have relied upon the Solaris Ready certified RamSan SSDs for many years and we are delighted to add the RamSan-400 to the lineup. The RamSan-400 is the ideal complement to high performance Solaris servers."

RamSan-400 highlights:

The World's Fastest Storage™
First solid state disk with 4Gb Fibre Channel interfaces.
First solid state disk with 4x InfiniBand interfaces.
Over 400,000 random I/Os per second.
3000 MB/s random sustained external throughput.
Full array of hardware redundancy to ensure availability.
IBM Chipkill technology protects against memory errors up to and including loss of an entire memory chip.
Exclusive Active Backup™ software constantly backs up data without any performance degradation. Other SSDs only begin to backup data once power is already lost.
